    Heading to Sunny Singapore

I’m at the airport in the business class lounge, waiting for my flight to Singapore.  I’ll be there for a week on business, but before I go, I’m going to try to catch up on some long overdue blogging.  Or can it really be overdue if everyone has come to expect giant gaps in my blog?  In any case, there are a few things I should probably talk about.

As you all know, I last wrote about my bicycle accident.  It really was a pretty minor accident, and totally pilot error, but I did break my arm.  Fortunately, it was a radial head fracture, and has been healing nicely.  It didn’t require surgery or a cast, and I was able to start typing two-handed again within a couple of weeks.  I am not quite back to full mobility (pretty close) and I’m not supposed to lift anything heavier than a coffee cup.  And not a big coffee cup, according to my orthopedist.  So it’s still a little annoying, but it may be more annoying to the people around me who continue to hear me whine about it occasionally.  I will be very glad when I am back to 100%.

hand2hand1Amber was great during the whole ordeal.  Of course, she got me to the hospital when it happened and helped get me all sorted out, but she really went above and beyond in the days after taking care of me when I still couldn’t do a lot around the house.  Thanks, Amber!  Love you!

For those of you who want to see the gory mess, Amber also snapped some pictures of my left hand, which looked a lot worse than the arm, but was really superficial.  It’s almost completely healed at this point, so I’ll add another after picture soon.  The arm was never terribly photogenic.  Other than a bit of a bruise on the underside which wasn’t terribly obvious, there wasn’t really any visible signs of injury.

I should add another thanks to the anonymous folks that also helped out.  The accident was right at the bottom of Education Hill, in front of a small apartment complex where one of the resident’s adult daughter was heading out.  She helped get me situated where I could rest for a few minutes with her very sweet elderly mother who helped get me some ice for my arm and the world’s oldest band-aids for my hand, while she took Amber up the hill to her car so she could get me to the urgent care office.  They were both very sweet and helpful!

This all happened a week before I was scheduled to transfer to a new group at Microsoft.  Despite being out of the office for most of the last week of my transition time, I moved onto the new team on schedule.  So now I am working on the Last Mile Innovation (LMI) team with several friends/colleagues from past MS teams.  I’ve been on the team for nearly a month now and I’m having a great time.  Part of the job is travelling occasionally (hence the trip to Singapore) and meeting up with MS folks, but not so often as to be annoying.  So expect more pictures and blog entries from exotic locales.

It’s getting pretty close to boarding, so I’ll wrap this up.  Next post will be from Singapore.

It is too bad you didn't break your arm closer to this trip so you could have worn your Singapore Sling. Ha!
I am glad your hand is healing but I would have the doctor check out the blood flow. It now has a zombie-like palor.
